the hoop house...

Living my best hoop house dreams thanks to Mr. Miner!!

We scored the metal frame + hardware for free and bought our plastic and roll-up side kits from Bootstrap Farmer (they have the BEST plant trays too!). We had enough metal to make a 14x20 structure. Doors on both ends. I built raised beds inside and hope to put down some rock/gravel next season to keep the mud + weeds down.

It's really late to start much by seed, but I couldn't help myself, so I planted cold hardy greens, beets, carrots, and radish. The beets and carrots won't do much during the winter, but once we hit 10 hours of daylight in February they should take off pretty swiftly and we will have early spring carrots and beets on our plates.

I've got small hoops and row cover to put over the raised beds, so the plants will have two layers of frost protection. I am SO looking forward to the season extension this will provide for us! I plan to overwinter some tender perennials in it (like my beloved passionflower) and also grow some of our tomatoes and peppers in it next season. Hopefully it will take a little of pressure off of my living room plant nursery operation come spring too. Haha!
