Things in bloom....
For the 400+ daffodil bulbs we planted last year, I only planted 40 tulips. Why? Everything wants to eat them. I might do a bed inside the garden someday, but for now I just planted a few and wished them luck. I knew what beds they were in but had forgotten exact placement, so it's been fun watching them pop up here and there.
The peach trees (dark pink flowers directly above) are FULL of blossoms this year! Last spring we had a late hard frost that killed off a lot of early blooms, so I'm hopeful we might get peaches this year! These peaches are a northern variety called Reliance and we're adding two more northern peach varieties this year called Contender. They are are supposed to be late bloomers which lessens their chance of losing the blossoms (and subsequently the fruit) from a late hard frost in the spring.
The white/pink apple blossoms above are from a tree that was established on the farm when we bought it. It's a full mature apple tree that looks like it was never pruned, the fruit is small but abundant and I think it's a biennial apple because it sure seems to flower/fruit heavy every other year. When we bought the property, Joe and I both felt like this tree belonged to the animals, so aside from a few "field snacks" we leave the rest to be devoured and cross our fingers it might deter them from our orchard just down the way. One can hope.... and sharing always feels good anyhow.
