june blooms

Late spring blooms (technically) since it's before the official beginning of summer. The peonies are showing off despite the constant rain and the yellow irises we planted last year are lovely! By the end of their season I figured out the peonies lasted SO much longer in a vase if I cut them before they opened up.... the rain really shortens their vase life if they are open at all and get rained on. The first few dozen I brought in looked great for a day or two and then all the petals fall to the floor at once. Yet other reason for obsessing over the weather forecast....After all the years I spent moving around and planting gardens I would leave for someone else, it feels pretty magical to see 4th and 5th year flowers coming into bloom. The little old lady in me is looking forward to what it will look like decades from now....xo,s
